Manga Spirits have arrived!

After a little bit of trial and error I can now share the pattern for a Crochet and a Knit Manga Spirit doll :-)  The Spirits are a shade over eight inches tall, and very simple to either knit or crochet.  There is a tutorial available on my Flickr site for making their eyes.

You can find the pattern by clicking Crochet or Knit Manga Spirits

The heads are button jointed to the body, which is a simple and inexpensive way to get a move-able head.   Move-able heads are amazing fun to play with and pose.  The legs are swing jointed to the body, and feet and hands are very, very simple (or nonexistent, in the case of the feet!  Shoes will provide foot definition).

Coming soon will be some clothes, so they don't have to hang around in their birthday suits.  Hope you enjoy the knit and crochet!

  3. The dolls are adorable, but I don't knit and the crocheted one has such a bumpy complexion. I would love to have a pattern that would allow me to make them out of old pantyhose! any chance?

  6. Beth, the spirits are just delightful!! Love the eyes you have perfected--they really give a "little girl" soul feeling to the dolls. Your knitting looks wonderful, and hope you are enjoying it as much as crochet. They are both naturally relaxing handcrafts. I have begun to bring a paper & pencil with me when I am doing these--as the ideas just start to flow. At my age--I have to write them down before they vanish into thin air!! Again--thanks for the fun website with fantastic tutorials!!! Judy

  20. My 5 year old son recently expressed an interest in crochet boy dolls. I made one with a different pattern but I am not entirely happy with the pattern and am looking for something new. This one looks really interesting and nicely proportioned. I do have a bit of a concern about the moveable head. He can be pretty rough with his hugging and play. Is there a way to modify it so the body and head are made together?

    1. Jennifer, you could make the head and body separate, then ladder stitch the head to the body, instead of jointing it. This way you don't need to modify the pattern.
