A Crisis of Conscience

This article from the New York Times impelled me to write to my Republican Senators and Democrat Congressman.  Read it, and please do the same:

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/24/opinion/border-kids-immigration-help.html

This is my letter:

In Germany of the 1930's, atrocities were committed, and the people simply ignored them, or believed they did not occur. And it escalated to a final solution that murdered over six million Jews, Gypsyies, Homosexuals....and others. Reading about children held in deplorable conditions in detention centers...another name for a concentration camp... I see the seeds of another Nazi Germany rising on our own soil.  Will we have the fortitude to resist? Or will we passively go along and become the monsters we defeated 75 years ago?

I am so sick at heart at the total lack of compassion, empathy, and Christian outrage at what our country is doing.  I implore you to do whatever you can to alleviate this suffering, and return us to our moral values;  values that this administration has trampled in the dust.

You must look yourself in the eye and ask...would you leave any child in these conditions?

Beth Webber

Update:

In the light of feeling helpless and hopeless regarding this atrocity, here is a link to suggestions you can do to help relieve the suffering.  And as always, write to your representatives in Congress.

  1. Foreigners took the dangerous chance of coming here illegally & Obama set up the "cages" to keep minor children. Pictures were taken & published during his administration. Did you you raise your concerns against the "moral values his administration trampled in the dust"?

You can place blame squarely on Congress of the last 40-50 years for not addressing immigration laws & loopholes. Trump is at least trying to make changes for the better with NO help from our DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS which by law is where the change has to be made.

Have you ever watched WWII DOCUMENTARIES (NOT MOVIES) showing the emaciated dead bodies thrown in ditches, left by the side of the road or being hauled down the road in an open dump truck? I haven't seen any of that presently.

Do you dare to allow my post to be published on your blog? Please look at both sides of the problem. I wish you well for the future & hope your blog will continue to bring you success.

Nie darf so etwas geschehen.Ich schäme mich dafür.
      Mit freundlichem Gruß Regina

    4. This is a translation of Regina's post. You, Bren, would do well to read it as she lived through the era of Hitler: We have seen it, and please believe me. We visited the concentration camps during school after the war. Everyone should have looked at it. Everyone should have foreseen this grey. Then they could no longer deny,
It was awful and I will never forget the mountains of children, teeth, hair and bones.
Never again do they doubt these greultaten other than that which National Socialism produced. This must never happen. I am ashamed of it.
      With friendly greeting Regina

In keinem anderen Land.

    liefdevol

    Bet
