Finished Granny Square Sweater :-)

All the blocks are sewn together, and the sweater is done!  Actually it is more like a jacket.  A bit on the heavy side, but this morning at 54F it was the perfect outer layer.

After stitching up the first sleeve it was apparent that the sleeves would be too long, so I removed the last row of squares from the bottom of the sleeves.  Much better :-)

And don't forget to block!

The pattern came from the Jan/Feb '08 issue of Crochet Today.  Now, to get back to dollmaking :-)

  11. Very pretty! Love it! I can't stand the idea of sewing squares (or even knitted seams for that matter) together so I crochet squares together as I go. I give you lots of credit for all of that sewing together. Very nice colors, too.

    Best,
    Lois

  12. Thank-you so much for the kind words, Lois and Anne :-)

I know what you mean about sewing all those blocks together, Lois. The biggest annoyance is weaving all those ends in so they don't show and don't come loose.

  15. Hi anonymous. The finished size of the granny squares for this sweater was 5 1/2 inches. If you can find a copy of the magazine (I'm pretty sure they sell back issues) it shows you how to stitch the squares together.

    Good luck!

  18. Hi Debi,

If your pieces look like the ones pictured above, the next step is to sew the shoulder/arm seam from the wrist up to the shoulders. Leave the center two block of the back unsewn for the back of the neck. Then, sew up the side/underarm seam from the bottom of the sweater to the underarm and then to the wrist.

    I hope this helps,

    Beth
