My latest Pocket Spirit work-in-progress, a Bleu Faerie commission for a dear friend. She is alongside a BJD from B&G, a 16cm mini honey named Claire. The BJD's are what inspired me to make the Pocket Spirits, with their movable heads and jointed shoulders. This doll uses 9mm eyes at the shoulder to give a nice movable joint.
You can find the pattern for the Pocket Spirit on the left hand sidebar.
More later :-)
Oh my I love her, her face, her hair everything!
ReplyDeleteSo fun! I love the cuteness and movements of both. I finally downloaded the Pocket Spirit pattern, but was a little confused at first about the magic circle. I wondered, "What could this special, mystical thing be?" But I can laugh at myself... I finally found out it was just a way of starting your circle without leaving a hole. Hope you are well!

She's adorable!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Helen, Steph, and Bama :-)
ReplyDeleteSteph, I don't usually use a magic circle to begin crocheting in the round, but in this it reduced the bulk in the first round and made it a little easier to put the collar on the eye shank that is used to make her head movable.

Curious. Of what was the BJD made. I gather her head is some solid material as the painted features would run if fabric. Or am I wrong? It looks molded to me. Is there a website on which I could get more info?
ReplyDeleteI used to make teddy bears that were completely articulated including the head. Fun.
As usual your dolls are darling. How you do so much in so short a time is beyond me. I was recently designing a baby doll, and it took me a week to get the leg in the right proportions, and that was after four tries.
Hi Yvonne!
ReplyDeleteThe BJD's are dolls that I have purchased. They are made of resin, and there is a whole world, no, Universe, of these doll by many different manufacturers, and they range in size from very small (9cm tall) to very large (like 60cm tall). They originated in Korea and are sometimes referred to Asian Ball Jointed Dolls (ABJD). Just Google BJD, Ball Jointed Doll, or Asian Ball Jointed Doll and you will be deluged in a wealth of information.
The ball joints are the same, or nearly, as those used in Bleuette over 100 years ago. Nothing new under the sun? Sometimes :-)
Small dolls are naturally more simple, I think, so the design phase doesn't take quite as long. Funny, but I don't feel as though I work all that quickly.
Have a lovely day!
Beth

Hi Rebecca, thank you for the good words :-) I honestly don't know if you can get automatic updates...maybe there is something in the 'follower' settings that could enable you to do this.

Beth , I sooo love all you do ! Do you ever have a doll for sale ?
ReplyDeleteDear Lone,
ReplyDeleteGood words from such an accomplished dollmaker are a real treasure to me. This doll is actually a commission; I do sell the occasional doll if I have what someone wants, or I'll make one special.
Thank you!
Beth
