Amethyst, from Fiona McDonald's book 'Babes in the Wool.'

Amethyst is from Fiona McDonald's book 'Babes in the Wool.'   This is the book that inspired me to learn to knit.  This doll was simple to make, and wonderful in her result.  Can you believe that such a beautiful and sophisticated doll can be made from knitting?

I have four nieces, ages 6 through 12, and these dolls seems to me to be the perfect gift for the fashion forward tween :-)  She is soft, pose-able, dress-able, and cool.

  1. The facial features are fantastic. You did an incredible job with a skein of yarn!! Makes me want to go make a doll this afternoon. Stupid cleaning of house has to come first, though.

  4. Sigh...your skills make me wish I wasn't so fumble-fingered with two hands. One hand, ok, two, not so much.
Check out my blog! Yah! http://www.popsicletoes.blogspot.com

  5. Judy, once that housecleaning is done, get out the yarn!

Paterisky, thank you for your kind words :-)

Kate, knitting felt really awkward to me at first, and still does not flow as easily as crochet, but it is worth giving it another try :-)

Oh Fiona, your words warm my heart; thank you so much! Can you tell I'm enjoying your design talents??

    Thank all of you!

  11. Dear Joyce, thank you so much for your lovely comments, and your wonderful friendship. Your sweet words mean a lot to me :-)

Anne, I used Hobby Lobby 'Elvish' for Amethyst's skirt and cape. Impossible yarn to crochet, but knittable :-)

Thank you so much, Lois, Cath, Tammy, and RocketKnit, for your good words :-)

Typstatting, the book is well worth buying. It is filled with dollmaking inspiration :-)
