This is a blog for sharing dollmaking patterns, images of my life, and some poor poetry. The links to patterns should now be restored.

Tiny cottage for tiny dolls
If you have a family of tiny dolls, they must be in need of a home! What I wanted to do was purchase one of those cute CD storage containers that look like a house...I made a dollhouse out of one of these several years ago (See this post). Sadly, they don't seem to be made anymore...what to do?
Well, since I hoard boxes (to my husbands dismay), I decided to see what could be done with a single box and some craft sticks collecting dust in my stash of craft goodies.
Here is a photo tutorial on Flickr on making this dollhouse, for the 2 1/2 inch Bendy dolls I've been making:

And here are the steps in a nutshell
And here we are at home :-)
What can you make today!

CD's are a disappearing technology, so the storage industry has disappeared for them as well. I can't believe how many donations of CD's we get at the library as people are transitioning to digital music. While there are some people who still buy it, we just don't have the market that once existed for it.
ReplyDeleteThat being said you have done amazing work with your new format going old school with boxes. Boxes were a time honored tradition for my sister and I in building homes for our dolls.
I am sure this is true...no need for an MP3 storage cabinet! But still, those cubbies could be used for other things; we just need to think outside the box :-)
DeleteI love cardboard boxes too...and it keeps them out of the landfill.
warmly,
Beth
A perfect little house making use of what you had to hand. I also went back and had a look at the other - what a great use of a CD storage unit. What a shame you couldn't find another...but then look at what fun and creativity you would have missed.
ReplyDeleteYou are right. Lorraine; and it made my husband happy to see one less cardboard box in the hoard :-)
